The Galaxy Tab 8.9 vs The IPad 2, The Winner is?

November 18, 2011 Tablet PC No Comments

I have been struggling with the decision on which tablet to get.  The Ipad 2, or the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9.  The Ipad has always been a favorite, it’s more square, the screen response is smooth and no delay, graphics are great, etc.  But, I have not been able to find the will to buy it.  Then Samsung came out with the Galaxy Tab 10.1, which I really liked.  However, it is wider than the Ipad 2, however, it is still thinner and looks great.  The two together were very similar, but again, I still couldn’t find the will to buy either one. You can see the difference between the two, it’s very evident to me.  For some reason, the wide screen profile really bothers me.

The Apple Ipad 2 has the look and feel  of a book style rather than a wide screen longer version that all of the Android tablets have.  The Samsung Galaxy Tab is thinner too, and supports flash.  The Ipad 2, with its 9.7 screen, also does not have flash, or you have to download an app to make it work, which is beyond annoying to me.  What is an large inconvienence to me is the fact that both of these do not have an SD Card slot, so you are stuck with the internal storage on both, which means, more storage, more money.

The answer to my quest was Samsung’s 8.9 version of the Galaxy Tab.

Although it does have some of the negative issues of the 10.1, its size and look for me makes up for it. The Wifi version is a reasonable price, and is thin, sleek, and runs incredibly. It runs on the Android Honeycomb version 3.1, which for me is superior, and the freedom to download the massive amount of apps out there is a huge plus. The Galaxy Tab’s overlay is great, the icons, and the smooth touch screen movement is incredible. Obviously, Apple does have more apps, but Android Market has thousands to choose from as well. The Galaxy Tab 8.9 also has a better front and back camera, the front is a 2.0 Megapixel, and the rear is a 3.0 Megapixel with Auto Focus and flash. The Ipad 2 has a front and rear camera, but only the rear is a 720p, the front camera is a 1 megapixel, and the pictures quality is not that great.
The Galaxy Tab has a better picture quality, bright and vibrant. All in all the Galaxaxy Tab 8.9 is for me, superiour by size, look, weight, and portability. The price is less than the Ipad 2 as well.
